Rachel is a landscape artist based on the Gower Peninsula in South Wales. Her work emerges from a deep emotional response to the coast and an enduring fascination with weather. She is inspired by the drama that unfolds in the skies and on the sea: the sudden darkness before a storm breaks, the shifting quality of light before, during, and after rain, distant squalls trailing across open water, and the sharp, fleeting shafts of light that pierce through heavy cloud, catching the surface of the water with an almost unearthly intensity. She is less concerned with depicting a literal scene than with capturing atmosphere—a sense of place and moment—using these transient shifts in weather and light to explore the connection between outer landscapes and inner states of being.
